berry update

Posted on June 21, 2014 at 8:06 AM Comments comments (325)
We are watching the berries ripen everyday.  We should have enough berries ripe within a few days to open for picking.  For the raspberry lovers out there the black raspberries are coming along nicely.  The red raspberries are still rather slow and not as many close to being ready.  There are blueberries that are ripe now but the majority are still just starting to turn so they are probably a week away but might be ready sooner depending on the weather.  It is amazing how the difference in weather through last winter has really made a difference this spring in everything getting ripe so much later than normal.  One thing about it though they will still be a tasty treat when all is said and done.  We will try to keep the blog updated as the berries get ripe. thanks Jill Zink

We are going to postpone opening until Saturday the 21st of June.  The berries are just slow getting ripe most likely due to the hard winter we had.  Hopefully the blueberries and black raspberries will be ripe by then.  Keep checking the website for further updates.  We will post some pictures of the berries here in the next few days.   Please feel free to call if you have any questions.  Thank you and have a wonderful day.

The blueberries are starting to look blue!!!!!  Our tentative plan is to open June 18th.  Right now we have just a few berries that are close to being ripe.  The blueberry bushes for the most part are still at least a week away from being ripe.  I would recommend calling or checking here for an update before coming the first time.  Our prices are $4.00/pound for u-pick blueberries and $3.50/pound for u-pick red and black raspberries.  Our hours when we open will be from  8am - 8pm.  We are looking forward to seeing  ya soon!

Berry update July 22, 2013

Today is Monday July 22, 2013 and the first few blackberries were picked.  The blueberries are still coming on but they will need a few days to ripen again.  We had pickers come from Cincinnati and they picked what there was available this morning.  The red raspberries are working on forming fruit for the fall crop.  We were closed last Friday, Saturday and Sunday and had a refreshing break from work.  We went camping with my youngest son and his family.  I went tubing behind a boat with Cameron one of my grandsons and I think I may have broken my nose!  It looks crooked and is a little harder to breathe through but I had a blast!!  While we were gone we did have some pickers who did leave money for their berries and I thank them for their honesty.  I would wait until the end of the week for blueberries and blackberries. that should give them a chance to have enough ripen to be worth the drive to pick.  I want to thank everyone who has come and picked and visited with us and our critters....they enjoy the attention too.  Jill

The blueberries are still producing and we still have many more to ripen.  It may be best to call ahead for a berry update since we have had folks come pick everyday and they seem to be keeping up with the berry output.  The blackberries are still a few weeks away and the red raspberries are starting to form berries for a nice fall crop.  Call 765-346-9813 for the latest berry update.  Thanks Jill Zink

Blueberries are available, they are ripening faster than what we expected.  Black berries are really turning red so they should be available in 2-3weeks.  For those who follow the bucks in the buck test they are still doing good. Anxious to see their next weigh in.  We weaned the last 2 bucklings over the weekend.  I think they and their mom are all hoarse from crying.  They both were 60+ pounds.

Blueberries are somewhat in between varieties and will need a few days to a week to be back strong.  Red raspberries and black raspberries should both have a good fall crop. Black berries are full and starting to turn red so they should be just a few weeks away.  You may want to call ahead to ensure that the berries are plentiful especially if you have any distance to drive.

The blueberries have been keeping up with demand until now.  We have had 30-40 pounds per day being picked.  I would recommend that if you want to pick blueberries that you wait until Friday the 5th of July just to give them a chance to ripen some more.  We don't want anyone to make a drive and be disappointed with the amount available.  There are still a bunch of bushes that are just starting to have a few berries ripen so there will be many more days to pick.  We have 8 different varieties and so they all ripen at a different time.  Our hours for the holiday is closed the 4th and reopen 8am the 5th of July.  We hope you all have a safe 4th of July and we look forward to seeing you after the holiday.  Thanks Jill Zink

Berry Update and change of hours

The blueberries are coming on strong and are delicious!!  The red raspberries and black raspberries are very limited but I think we will have a nice fall crop. The blackberries are loaded and looking great.  I need to change are hours of operation though.  We will still be open M-Sat 8am -8pm but we will be closed on Sundays.  We really need to have one day that we can rest, run errands and spend time with family. We will also be closed on one Saturday a month.  I will post these dates as soon as possible.  I will also try to keep the voicemail updated to alert you when those dates are going to be so nobody will drive down only to be disappointed.  We look forward to seeing you and thanks in advance for understanding the change in hours.  Jill Zink
Also for those of you that follow our goats in the buck test they are doing great!!  They had quite a few goats that had to be dewormed again already due to parasite load from the sheep that grazed the pasture prior to the buck test.  So far our boys have shown resistance and still have a 0 fecal egg count.  Hopefully they will continue to thrive and show a good weight gain.
